Ingredients:
4 cups bread flour or all-purpose flour
1 tsp sugar
1/4 tsp salt
2 tsp yeast
1 1/2 cups warm water
3 tbsp warm milk
2 tbsp olive oil + some extra for brushing
1/2 tsp lemon juice, optional
In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
Make a well in the center of the flour and add milk, 2 tablespoons olive oil and lemon juice. Stir.
Slowly pour the water as you mix to form a soft, but not sticky dough. You may not need all the water.
Knead dough until it is elastic and smooth. Cover dough with plastic wrap and a towel and let rest for 1 hour.
Divide dough into 12 equal pieces, about 85 grams each. Roll each piece in a ball. Place the balls on a lightly floured surface and cover with a damp cloth or paper towels. Let rise for 45 minutes.
Heat a crepe pan or any flat pan over medium-high heat.
Roll the dough balls on a lightly floured surface into a 5 or 6-inch circle. Place on the heated pan.
Cook the Naan until it starts to form bubbles. Turn the bread over and brush with some olive oil. Cook the bread on the other side. Brush with olive oil.
Serve warm with any curry base dish.
Yields: 12 Naan
Notes&Tips:
This is a simple and easy yeasted naan to make.
You can substitute some of the bread flour/all purpose flour with whole wheat. However, I'd advise to increase the amount of water used to maintain the softness of the bread.
Naan can be consumed as a plain bread. However, it is generally served with a variety of curries: vegetables and, or meat.
