Ginger Sesame Teriyaki Sauce

Ingredients:

1 cup water
1/3 cup soy sauce
1/2 tbsp grated ginger
4 tbsp brown sugar
1/8 tsp pepper flakes
1 large garlic clove, minced (about 1 tsp)
1 tbsp sesame oil
1 tsp rice vinegar
2 tsp toasted sesame seeds
1 tbsp cornstarch
3 tbsp water
In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine first 8 ingredients. Stirring occasionally as sugar dissolves.
Whisk together cornstarch and water.
As mixture comes to a boil, reduce heat and stir in cornstarch mixture.
Stir occasionally as sauce thickens. Depending on your desired thickness, cook between 7 and 15 minutes.
Remove from heat and stir in sesame seeds.
Yields: about 1 1/3 cups.
Notes&Tips:
Making your own teriyaki sauce will eliminate unwanted ingredients like high fructose corn syrup and other artificial flavorings.
Teriyaki sauce can be kept for weeks in the refrigerator.
This sauce can be used both as a marinade and a glaze.
