Ginger Sesame Teriyaki Sauce

Ingredients:

Ginger Sesame Teriyaki Sauce
  • 1 cup water

  • 1/3 cup soy sauce

  • 1/2 tbsp grated ginger

  • 4 tbsp brown sugar

  • 1/8 tsp pepper flakes

  • 1 large garlic clove, minced (about 1 tsp)

  • 1 tbsp sesame oil

  • 1 tsp rice vinegar

  • 2 tsp toasted sesame seeds

  • 1 tbsp cornstarch

  • 3 tbsp water

  1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine first 8 ingredients. Stirring occasionally as sugar dissolves.

  2. Whisk together cornstarch and water.

  3. As mixture comes to a boil, reduce heat and stir in cornstarch mixture.

  4. Stir occasionally as sauce thickens. Depending on your desired thickness, cook between 7 and 15 minutes.

  5. Remove from heat and stir in sesame seeds.

Yields: about 1 1/3 cups.


Notes&Tips:

  • Making your own teriyaki sauce will eliminate unwanted ingredients like high fructose corn syrup and other artificial flavorings.

  • Teriyaki sauce can be kept for weeks in the refrigerator.

  • This sauce can be used both as a marinade and a glaze.
